In an instant—everything changed.
I was standing at the kitchen sink, washing dishes. My brain knew what I was doing but I DID NOT feel like I was where I was. I know that sounds really weird! A very out-of-body experience. Something I NEVER want to experience again. I knew something wasn't right but the doctors couldn't tell me what was wrong.
Many months and doctors visits later, I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's Hypothyroidism, an autoimmune condition in which your body creates antibodies that attack your thyroid. Fortunately, I had found a functional medicine doctor that was helping me to “fix” the problem, not just mask the symptoms.
One way he was helping me “fix” the problem was to detox my body and change my diet, drastically. “I have a masters degree in nutrition, why had I not learned this in school?” As we began to raise our own food due to it being incredibly difficult to source local organic food, I began to feel better. We worked hard to detox our bodies and our home and things were looking up!
I was talking to my husband one evening, when it dawned on me. This wasn’t an option, it was a calling. An unshakable feeling down to the very last cell in my body that we had to share our passion for raising ethical, organic, whole, nutrient dense food with the world. I had no idea, in that moment, that our lives would change forever. Or even more shockingly, just how much it would change…
It was months later that my husband and I found a week long class, Ranching for Profit. We felt this would be a good way to learn how to run a business out of what we had already started. It would help us scale up and learn how to regeneratively manage all of our livestock. We went to the class in December of 2019. We got home, my husband quit his job, we found a ranch that we loved in central Texas, and began planning a move.
It wasn't until 2020 when the pandemic hit that we realized why God had such grand things in store for us. That was a period of time when everyone was realizing just how broken the food system was in America. Our mission, to begin with, was to provide superior quality, organic food to our local community but after realizing how much could be lost with one or two major processors in the country shut down, we realized there was a greater need. Our new mission is to provide superior quality, organic food to whoever needs it. We never want there to be a food shortage, that starts locally, and if we can provide for the greater area, we will. So far, we have been able too and we feel SO incredibly fortunate to do that! We have sold a great deal of meat and eggs locally, and we have shipped many boxes across the state of Texas.
We have big plans for the rest of 2021 and those continue into 2022. Some of those include stocking some farm to market groceries in Austin and Houston and possibly adding a "white glove delivery" service in the state of Texas, just to name a few. Please let us know if there is something you would like to see from us and stay tuned for more of the big adventure that all changed... in an instant.
